In any sort of
emergency some form of communications is vital to allow people in the community
to function properly. This is especially important in small communities around
the country. Some sort of organized CB operators with well-equipped stations
could easily make a big difference in emergency situations.
I have an idea for CBers who would meet on a weekly basis
and play CB hide and seek.
These cars would each pay £1 entry fee to participate. One individual
would be drawn from the group to hide from the others.
They would receive half the money for their efforts or if lucky
enough not to be found he would keep all the funds. The hider is provided with
about 12 minutes in which to hide within a ten mile radius. At the start of the
hunt the hunters will have 30 minutes in which to find the hunted. Needless to
say the hunted is usually found.
One of the rules is that the hunted must count to 20 every
10 minutes. Through the use of the direction finding antennas mounted on the
vehicles the group seeks out the hunted successfully.
I mention this as an exercise in disaster preparedness. Can
you imagine a group of people like this searching for you in an actual emergency?
They may be seeking your food and supplies but either way you look at it is not
pretty for you.
Unfortunately mobile phones simply cannot replace radio communications.
Several areas in my location just cannot receive a viable signal for cell
operations and in emergencies that would and could be disastrous. In cases such
as that the CB radio offers a great advantage over trying to use a mobile phone.
I would like to briefly expand upon my word of caution here.
If you noticed that the above mentioned CBers were playing cat and mouse.
This suggests survivalists sitting safely in their retreat
location. Oh, did I say safely? I am sorry unfortunately if someone wanted to
locate a transmitting CB it can and often is done as I have explained.
It may take the trackers a few hours to accomplish it but in
the end they will find you. It is not just CB radio signals but essentially
anything that you can transmit. Any radio transmission can be not only
eavesdropped upon but tracked as well especially if it happens to be a fixed
location site.
Think carefully about sending out daily transmissions in
search of other survivors. If these mutants think you have a storage supply of
food they will likely come for it. I am not being paranoid but merely
practical as there will be those with supplies and those looking for your
supplies.
On the other hand your ability to monitor these radio
signals could result in a life or death situation. If you can receive the
trackers signal you have some idea as to where they are in reference to you.
